HP and Brocade partner in SANs

Hewlett-Packard and Brocade have announced that they are creating a joint venture.

The venture will see Hewlett-Packard's (HP) VeraStor storage area network (SAN) virtualization technology deployed within Brocade's SilkWorm fabric application platform. The pair believe this will offer increased scalability and performance for heterogeneous storage environments. HP and Brocade made the announcement at HP's ENSA@Work event, which was held in Amsterdam this year. HP claim the announcement delivers on their ENSAextended strategy.

"ENSAextended enables customers to adapt and optimise storage and service levels through advanced technologies such as virtualization, adding greater simplicity and utilisation of storage resources," said Howard Elias, the senior vice president and general manager, HP Network Storage Solutions. "

Locally, Johnny Jones, the regional director of Brocade's branch office said: "Our approach assures total investment protection for SAN customers, who will be able to seamlessly integrate HP OpenView CASA into their existing SAN fabric and gain benefits of fabric based applications."

The deal follows Broacade's recent acquisition of the Rhapsody platform, which will be integrated into this partnership to offer storage virtualization and management.

In a statement, Brocade said the solution will be shipped with HP's VeraStor technology in the second half of 2003.
