Vista SP1 Build Masquerades as Official Update
Vista SP1 Build Masquerades as Official Update
February 28, 2008: Microsoft’s Windows Vista woes are continuing, with a build of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for the 64-bit version of the operating system being accidentally posted to its Windows Update service.
Despite hitting it’s the software updating service much earlier than Microsoft has stated it would to date, many users downloaded the build thinking it was the real deal. Even more users had the flawed update downloaded automatically, only becoming aware of a potential problem when asked to install the downloaded files.
So far problems appear to be minor, with some users reporting a disappearance of their computers “performance” rating, problems with Vista’s Mobile Device Centre, and compatibility problems with some anti-virus and security software packages.
Microsoft moved quick to remove the bogus update, and has reiterated that general availability for SP1 is set for mid-March.
