Tandberg Improves Disk-based Storage for SMBs

August 27, 2008: Data protection solution supplier Tandberg has increased the capacity of RDX QuikStor disk-based storage system to 500GTB, as well as added continuous protection capabilities.

The company’s always-on RDX FileKeeper is aimed at SMBs, and according to Tandberg combines the reliability, portability, archive life, and low cost of tape with the performance, speed, random access, and ease of use of hard disk technology.

As SMBs usually make do without dedicated IT support, Tandberg says it has designed RDX FileKeeper to be a “plug it in, leave it in and leave it on” solution, and will be including it with all new RDX QuikStor units.

“Research has shown that 40 percent of SMBs don’t back up their data at all, and 60 percent of all data is stored on PC desktops and laptops,” says Bharat Kumar, vice president of marketing and development at Tandberg Data. “Furthermore, most business users who do have a back-up device do not back up their data on a daily or even weekly basis.

“A third of computer users lose all files due to events beyond their control, and hard drive crashes occur every 15 seconds. A plug-and-play, 'ruggedised' device that offers CDP, automatically, will be able to prevent disastrous data loss,” said Kumar.
