More Momentus for Seagate

Month Date, 2008: Seagate has started shipping out its 250GB capacity notebook hardrives, known as the Momentus 5400.4

The latest addition to the Momentus family is joining the likes of the 5400 FDE2 which the Californian based company claims is the world’s first notebook HDD with built-in encryption and currently the most powerful security solution available for mobile computing.

“Personal computing is the core of the digital experience as users continue to use their PCs as the hub for storing, sharing, syncing and protecting their digital content,” said Michael Wingert, general manager of Seagate’s Personal Compute business.

This announcement seems set to boost Seagate’s market share even further, which IDC puts at 19% for notebook and PC-related hard drives for the first three quarters of 2007.

“In the five years that Seagate has offered hard drives for notebook PCs, it has become a contender for the notebook market share crown,” said John Rydning, research manager for hard disk drives at IDC. “Seagate’s product breadth and customer responsiveness have contributed significantly to the company’s ascent in this market.”
