CTERA Merges NAS with Cloud Storage

January 8, 2009: Next-generation storage developer CTERA has rolled out its new Cloud Attached Storage technology in the run up to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, saying that it has merged Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology with cloud storage.

The company says that by bundling NAS and cloud storage services into a single appliance, it has been able to marry the performance and simplicity of a local NAS device with the scalability and reliability of cloud storage.

CTERA says that it will also be unveiling its smallest form factor appliance at the show, the CloudPlug. The device is a tiny form-factor, plug-in device that transforms any external USB hard drive into a NAS device with automatic backup.

The CloudPlug enables the contents of any attached USB drive to be automatically backed up online without the need for any user intervention or PC client software.
