February 11, 2009: Just four mouse clicks is all it takes to setup. That's the promise from Iomega for its new StorCenter Pro ix4 NAS, available in 2TB, 3TB or 4TB configurations.
.Delivering fast data throughput and multiple RAID configurations, the ix4 includes RSA-based enterprise security protection for networks with up to 25 users. The devices is managed by a Web interface, and Iomega claims IT staff are not required.
The four-drive NAS is powered by LifeLine software from Iomega parent company EMC, a Linux operating environment and suite of applications to protect data and perform automated tasks.
It can act as a media server, and provides hot-swappable drives, Bluetooth and video surveillance capabilities .
The ix4 can be configured with different levels of RAID support: RAID 5 (pre-configured) and RAID 10 (both with automatic RAID rebuild), as well as JBOD. The four drives in the ix4 are hot-swap SATA II hard drives, and it offers Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.
The ix4 has four USB 2.0 ports for adding printers or additional storage capacity with external USB drives.
Data backup and protection for any number of desktops and laptops is provided with integrated EMC Retrospect backup software. During the set-up process, users choose files and folders for scheduled automatic backups. After that, any changes or additions are updated and saved automatically.
For additional protection, the StorCenter Pro ix4-100 includes MozyHome online backup service, a secure way to store, protect and access important files. MozyHome online backup service provides 2GB of free online storage per user for backing up selected folders directly from their computers to EMC data centres.
The StorCenter Pro ix4-100 also includes RSA BSAFE encryption security technology for protecting installs and upgrades from viruses or malware.
The StorCenter Pro ix4-100 NAS Server is compatible with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux PCs. It is now available in Australia from $A1719 and in New Zealand from $2269
