Salmat and NT Govt join forces for Lands

February 17, 2009: Salmat BusinessForce, a division of the Salmat Group, has undertaken a Technology Export Agreement (TEA) with the Northern Territory Government to commercialise the government’s Integrated Land Information System (ILIS).

Under this agreement, the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Planning and Infrastructure and Salmat BusinessForce will jointly market and sell the ILIS technology to other governments and organisations around Australia and in international markets.

Governments shifting from old title systems to a Torrens Title style system of land management are driving international demand for technologies like ILIS. Most recently an MOU signed between the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China and Salmat BusinessForce signalled the intention of the Xinjiang Government to implement ILIS and develop a strategy to exporting the technology to other provinces in China.

In recent years, NT Lands has worked closely with Salmat, which has integratred additional capabilities into ILIS that now make it one of the most sophisticated land management technologies in the world.

“The signing of the TEA between the Northern Territory Government and Salmat BusinessForce comes at a very exciting time, considering the growing interest in land management by governments in Australia and overseas,” said Phill Dance, National Manager, Land Information Services for Salmat BusinessForce. “Working hand in hand with the Northern Territory’s Lands Department, we will be able to offer our world leading land information system to all interested parties. Salmat BusinessForce has a long history of working closely with Federal and State Government agencies and we are delighted at the outcome of the strategic collaboration between our organisation and the NTG.”

Salmat BusinessForce is currently investigating potential for ILIS in India, which recently released an EOI for a land information system. Hong Kong is also reviewing the ability of Government to ensure the tenure of land by moving away from feudal forms of land management.
