NetApp Adds SAP Backup

NetApp Adds SAP Backup

February 23, 2009: NetApp has announced the release of its SnapManager 3.0 for SAP, saying it can provide enhanced backup, restore, data protection, and clone-based system copy creation capabilities for SAP environments.

NetApp says that the amount of business-critical SAP data is continuing to grow, making a data and storage management solution with data availability and protection capabilities needed more than ever.

The company says that SnapManager 3.0 has achieved SAP certified integration with SAP NetWeaver Application Server component via the backup and restore tools from SAP (also known as BR*Tools). It claims that this integration enables greater automation of SAP data management tasks for increased efficiency and improved data protection.

Furthermore, NetApp says that integration with its Protection Manager enables storage administrators to set data protection workflow policies to simplify and standardise SAP backups, further streamlining data protection.

NetApp says that SnapManager 3.0 enables SAP users to restore databases in a matter of seconds rather than hours, while system copies for development and testing directly on primary or secondary storage can be created in a matter of minutes. NetApp says that this enables faster deployment times for new SAP solution implementations, upgrades, or maintenance patches.
