Alfresco joins Open Source Channel Alliance

April 16, 2009:Alfresco Software has announced its participation as a founding member of the Open Source Channel Alliance, a consortium of leading open source Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) led by Red Hat.

The Open Source Channel Alliance is aimed at delivering the value of open source technologies to a large base of Value Added Resellers (VARs) and System Integrators (SIs) through extended partnerships with SYNNEX. The eight founding ISV members have signed agreements with SYNNEX to distribute a variety of open source applications, in addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Middleware.

“The purpose of the Open Source Channel Alliance is to close the gap between business problems and value-driven IT solutions, by connecting enterprises with a complete open source proposition,” explained Roger Egan, vice president, channel sales, North America Red Hat. “We hope that by partnering with leading open source stack vendors such as Alfresco, customers will leverage the alliance to guide them when making decisions which deliver value while providing alternatives to more expensive proprietary offerings.”

SYNNEX is investing in open source because of the technical advantages and cost savings the open source model offers to the marketplace. Through the alliance,SYNNEX can offer complete open source solution packages that can deliver the kind of return-on-investment that VARs and SIs look to pass on to their customer bases, especially during the current economic climate.

“Our channel partners and their customers will benefit tremendously from the Open Source Channel Alliance because, together with the founding members, we can offer multiple end-to-end solutions in open source,” said BobStegner, senior vice president, marketing, North America at SYNNEX Corporation. “The Alfresco open source product offering empowers value added resellers, system integrators and end customers with the freedom of choice without the fear of vendor lock-in.”

“We see this alliance as a reflection of the increased demand open source is experiencing due to economic pressures on IT budgets to deliver better value for money.SYNNEX is providing even easier ways for enterprises to adopt a complete range of open source solutions across the entire technology stack,” commented John Powell, CEO Alfresco Software. “This will be welcome news for users of open source and provide enterprises with a strategic alternative to proprietary stacks.”

The applications that form part of the Open Source Channel Alliance will be available immediately to VARs and SIs through SYNNEX’s extensive reseller network. Further information can be found at www.opensourcechannelalliance.com.
