XAware Goes Open Source

By Greg McNevin

November 8, 2007: Data integration specialist XAware has announced that it is forgoing the world of proprietary software, instead choosing to develop open source solutions instead.

Bolstering its decision, the company will be handing out free licences for its recently released XA-Suite version 5, switching to the MySQL database and spearheading a new development community at xaware.org.

XAware’s solution uses XML to create a data services layer which provides consistent, real-time access to all data, regardless of the source. Through the use of XML, XAware’s solution enables data to be represented, manipulated and transformed into reusable SOA XML components.

The firm claims it intends to partner with other open source projects, the first of which is a gold partnership with the open source database MySQL.

“XAware shares MySQL’s commitment to offering users open source freedom and trusted software with support,” said Tim Harvey, president and CEO of XAware. “While some open source offerings handle limited data integration tasks, such as ETL, XAware is the only open source product to give developers a comprehensive solution for succeeding with all their data integration projects.”

Jumping from the tangible income of proprietary software to the more fluid world of open source is a big change for the firm. XAware hopes that by going open source and giving away its intellectual property it can substantially boost its client base in the emerging open source data integration market.
