Windows 7 Wish List Leaked

Windows 7 Wish List Leaked

By Nathan Statz

November 13, 2007: What do Microsoft Windows users want for Christmas? According to feedback which has been leaked to the public about Windows 7, the codename for the version after Vista, most people want a mix of new features and the return of old favourites.

Windows 7 is the ultimate successor to Vista, though it won’t be called that at release as it’s just the codename which has been attached to it, much like how Vista was once known as project Longhorn. Thanks to a feedback leak displayed on Neowin which shows what users want to see in the next Windows version, we now have some idea where Microsoft will be going.

There are some really solid suggestions that begs the question of why they aren’t implemented already, such as tabbed explorer windows, not having your CD drive spool up every time you bring up a drive list and a ‘Windows Gaming Mode’ which assumedly would direct all available system resources to the game itself.

Some of the new features include practical desires such as automated disk cleanup and emptying of temp folders as well as cosmetic requests like a recycling bin which fills up visually. Another request is from someone who hasn’t discovered Firefox yet and desires the ability to close individual browser tabs in Internet Explorer

There are also requests for old features which have fallen by the wayside to be brought back, such as the return of domain lists at the welcome screen to ease the login process and the ability to install outlook express on Vista and future versions.

While the feedback in no way guarantees the features will make there way onto Windows 7, it does give us an insight on the information Microsoft is working with in order to bring us the next generation of operating system. With Vista underperforming in the sales department, it’s no surprise that Microsoft will be focusing on not repeating those mistakes with Windows 7 and to recapture the OS glory they’ve experienced for so many years.
