November 16, 2007: Deloitte’s annual Technology Fast 50 award ceremony has been held with Mobile Data Group taking the top honours this year with a few surprising results.

Deloitte’s Fast 50 ranks the fastest growing technology companies based on a percentage of revenue growth over the last three years.

“For the third consecutive year internet based companies dominated the field, with 44% of the Fast 50 engaged in internet based businesses. This is a significant jump, up 10% on 2006 results.” Said Julia Bickerstaff, Media & Communications partner at Deloitte.

The explosive growth Mobile Data experienced has been on the back of a major surge in popularity of its mobile content and applications, Marc Carr, Co-CEO of the company with his brother attributes this growth to companies like Apple re-popularising mobile phones as complete multimedia devices.

Coming in a reasonable second place was Ansearch Limited with a 4,986% growth rate, an interesting result as it demonstrates just how far the search market has come in the couple of years.

“The big challenge was recovering from the slow growth of the last 3 years… Ansearch aims to capture more then our fair share of the search market” said Joshua Edia, Ansearch CEO.

Last year’s winner, Unwired dropped to 36th overall with 189% growth, a major drop compared to last year’s impressive 7,000% growth rate, though the company is now competing in a much more competitive wireless broadband market.
