Silent Cube makes a splash
A new permanent data storage and archiving system, the Silent Cube from Germany, has been introduced in Australia.
Distributed in Australia by The Microcare Group, the WORM storage system has been developed for the secure, long-term storage of permanent data. It has been developed specifically as a totally secure second and third tier archiving system.
Silent Cube comprises 12 hard disks from three different manufacturers. Even should four hard disks fail at the same time, no data would be lost. It does not use RAID. Data sealing against changes, deletions or overwriting is incorporated into the hardware and can therefore never be circumvented.
Silent Cube regularly checks the recorded data automatically (internal Digital Audit) to maintain the integrity of the files. Software is also included for replication to a second location to meet compliance requirements and/or disaster recovery.
Silent Cube’s capacity is 12 or 6 terabyte gross (8 or 4 terabyte net). Additional Cubes can be plugged in making the system scalable to petabytes. The inbuilt software automatically configures any additional Cubes.
The Cube system has been specially designed for “green’ computing, with one Cube drawing two watts of energy in standby mode.
