Victorian ICT Companies Take on China

October 9, 2007: More then 20 Victorian ICT companies are preparing to strut their stuff in Shanghai this week as CeBit Asia hits full swing.

CeBit is the biggest Information & Communications Technology (ICT) trade show in the world, and has been held in the USA, Germany, Australia, China and Turkey. The flagship German Cebit in Hannover had 700,000 visitors to its 2007 exhibition.

“Specialised Victorian ICT companies focusing on areas such as mobile technology, digital media, web development, eLearning and content management will be getting a slice of the action as they showcase to a global audience” said Theo Theophanous, the Victorian Minister for Information & Communication Technology.

The Brumby Government is helping to foot the bill for the Victorian involvement as part of it’s ICT Trade Events and Export Assistance Program. Having been in place since 1999, the program has sent 480 local companies to 40 different countries, a feat which Theophanous claims has facilitated more then $1.7 billion in projected exports.

“China is one of the largest emerging ICT markets and this trade mission will give our local companies fantastic opportunities” says Theophanous.

CeBit Shanghai is expected to attract more then 70,000 business visitors over the next three days, with over 2000 exhibitors cramming into the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
