Trend Micro’s Triple Play

Trend Micro’s Triple Play

October 10, 2007: Security software provider, Trend Micro has today unveiled the 2008 versions of its Antivirus & Spyware protection offerings.

The announcement actually brings three new offerings to the market, two are new versions of existing product lines and one entirely new offering, TM Internet Security Pro. The 2008 makeovers for these products are incorporating a much larger array of features then previous generations, as the nature of threats has been evolving.

“The threats have changed, you’re not so much looking at cyber graffiti any more, now its organised criminals trying to generate money. Virus’s are all old-hat now” says Ross Wilson, Managing Director of South Asia & India at TM.

Despite being quite a mouthful, Security Pro is the deluxe package Trend Micro is offering, incorporating a broad spectrum of security protection as well as features borrowed from its bigger enterprise cousins. The enterprise features being incorporated in Security Pro include TM’s TrendSecure, a platform which enables software-as-a-service like options for advanced protection.

The two products receiving their 2008 makeovers are TM Antivirus and Anti-Spyware as well as PC-Cillin Internet Security. PC-Cillin is aimed at the computer user who may not require as much protection as a heavy user who is better off with Security Pro, but still requires the strong levels of protection. TM’s Antivirus and Anti-Spyware is the low budget offering and is far cheaper then the others, while still offering the basic guards against internet threats.

“Trend Micro 2008 products have been designed for people who extensively use their computers to conduct various activities online, whether they are at home or away. With this latest release, customers can enjoy all the benefits of the Internet with peace of mind.” said David Peterson, Trend Micro Consumer Director for ANZ

Interestingly enough, the PC-Cillin brand name is Australia-centric now, as the US has moved the name of it to a more TM focused name, however brand awareness is still quite strong locally so TM have stuck with it.

“PC-Cillin is a hold-over from the anti-virus days. We kept PC-Cillin brand in Australia as it’s so recognisable here” Peterson explained.
