Oracle Releases 11g Database for Windows

October 26, 2007: Several months after launching the Linux version of its 11g database, Oracle has announced that the Windows version is also now available with a range of improvements.

Oracle says the Windows version of its flagship database sports a number of performance improvements, plus much greater integration with Microsoft’s product when it comes to both the administration and development layers.

The company says the new version is suitable for mission-critical applications, with features including support for Volume Shadow Copy Service, improved integration with Active Directory and Kerberos plus Visual Studio integration.

Oracle says the database also offers new functionality in the form of Real Application Testing which enables the use of real-life production workloads to test the effect of changes within IT environments, Advanced Compression which Oracle claims can shrink data to one 3rd or less of its original size and Total Recall, a system that enables querying of historical data changes.

“Optimised for Windows, Oracle Database 11g helps growing businesses address their increasing data management demands with unrivaled price/performance and scalability,” said Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of database server technologies at Oracle.
