Sharepoint Breaks US$800 Million

August 1st, 2007: Microsoft’s (MS) Sharepoint Business has grown 35% in the last financial year.

Driven by strong sales of Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server, or MOSS as its being affectionately known, MS’s Sharepoint business has grown 35% in the last financial year to generate more then US$800 Million (AU$930 Million) in revenue.

Sharepoint is being seen as an enterprise-wide solution, with businesses implementing the product across the entire enterprise, as opposed to allowing different departments to use different solutions. An IDC survey of Sharepoint customers has revealed that 61 percent are enterprise-wide, with a further 28% expected in the next 12 months.

MOSS is becoming increasingly commonplace in Australian workplaces, as the attractiveness of server networked office applications increases. The suite also includes collaborative software, encompassing enterprise search, content management, business intelligence and portals.

“We were confident Office SharePoint Server 2007 would be well-received, but even we have been blown away by its phenomenal success,” said Kirk Koenigsbauer, general manager for SharePoint Product Management at Microsoft.
