Canon exits Microfilm market

Following the continued shift towards electronic document capture solutions and the decline in demand for microfilm and microfiche equipment, Canon has announced it plans to discontinue its micrographics business.

Canon was one of the early pioneers of this market, providing specialist micrographics equipment for more than 50 years following the introduction of its first Rotary Microfilm Camera in 1959.

It has committed to continue production of consumables for existing scanners for seven years.
In 2010, Kodak sold its microfilm products and equipment business to US company Eastman Park Micrographics.
