Iomega Improves SMB Communications Security

June 28, 2007: Iomega has given its security arm a hefty boost, announcing that it is teaming up with on-demand communications security and email compliance firm Postini to offer enterprise-level security solutions to SMBs around the world.

The partnership will see Iomega deliver Postini’s security and compliance solutions via its reseller and distribution channel relationships. Starting in July, the company’s new OfficeScreen Managed Email Security and Spam Defense – Powered by Postini package will be hitting shelves and offering SMBs the same protection from spam, viruses and other malicious attacks that enterprises enjoy.

Iomega claims that upwards of 93 percent of all electronic mail traffic consists of spam, malicious threats or offensive material and says that businesses are “under siege from increasingly sophisticated networks of criminal hackers, spammers, and phishers”.

Defending against these attacks while managing email, securing intellectual property and ensuring compliance can rapidly swamp small businesses and their equally small (and often non-existent) IT departments.

The company says that Postini imbues its OfficeScreen suite not only with protection from communication threats by blocking spam, viruses, phishing, and email threats before they hit the company’s email gateway, but it also provides message management and policy enforcement.

Later this year Iomega is also planning to launch additional Postini services such as message archiving, email encryption and the securing and management of instant messaging.
