Office 2007 for $25?

By Greg McNevin

March 6, 2007: Microsoft is making a big push for the allegiance of Australian university students, offering Office 2007 packages for as little as $25.

In what is seemingly a bid to take the shine off competition from OpenOffice.org and Google’s new online office suite, Microsoft is offering students a lifetime Office 2007 Ultimate license for $75, and a one-year license for $25 through a promotional website itsnotcheating.com.au.

As always though, there is a catch. In this case, the software can only be installed on a single computer and no original discs are sent out. Students must sign up for the software using their university email address, which the activation code will be sent to after purchase.

From here, a trial version of the software can be downloaded, installed and then unlocked with the activation code.

On an interesting note, Microsoft already has an academic version of Office 2007 available which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and retails at $249. However, while it is not only significantly cheaper, this new discounted version comes with extra programs, namely Access, Publisher and Outlook 2007.

The deal represents a 95% discount on Office 2007 premium which retails at $1150, and closes on May 28 this year.
