Open Text Boosts Email Compliance

February 19th, 2007: Enterprise content management (ECM) specialist Open Text has given email management and compliance in law firms a boost by integrating its LegalKEY Records Management solution with Symantec’s Enterprise Vault.

The company says this new software fusion will provide a complete email capture and archival solution by storing emails as official records in accordance to internal policies and compliance requirements.

Announced at its Summit 2007 user conference in California, Open Text claims that without proper records management technologies in place for manner of content, firms are exposed to risk, lost opportunities, and higher storage costs overall.

It says that the integration of LegalKEY's matter-centric approach with Symantec’s enterprise software will enable users search for items associated with a particular matter and get all relevant items back, including emails stored in multiple repositories. Searches can be conducted from within Microsoft outlook, and all metadata associated with an email, such as client or case number, is retained and fully searchable in Enterprise Vault.

Full-text indexing can be performed on all electronic documents, emails and document images, and information can be easily requested, reserved, or modified according to Open Text.

"Law firms need to be able to track and manage emails based on associated matter and to manage the retention of those emails to improve discovery capabilities," says Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President, Compliance Solutions Business at Open Text. "Symantec Enterprise Vault offers law firms a flexible archiving framework for email and other content. This integration is in response to our customers' requirements to manage emails as records while taking advantage of the email archiving capabilities of Enterprise Vault."
