Exchange 2007 Ready For Prime Time

December 14th, 2006: After the largest beta testing process to date, Microsoft says that Exchange Server 2007 is cocked and ready to rock.

Microsoft put its software where its mouth is being one of the first to test Exchange Server 2007 along with hundreds of early adopters such as Lion Nathan and the Queensland University of Technology. All up over 500,000 beta testers have put the software through its paces, while Microsoft itself says it is running 125,000 mailboxes on Exchange Server 2007.

The software giant says that more than 30,000 of its mailboxes have Unified Messaging enabled, and so far it has delivered more than 99.95 per cent availability.

Unified Messaging is a key feature for Exchange 2007 and enables voice mail and fax messaged to be delivered directly to an Exchange inbox. Next to this, the software is offering a host of other new features, security and compliance measures such as:

  • Mobility support to enabling IT administrators to enforce security policies on mobile devices with greater control, whilst still allowing users to access important inbox information while they are on the move.
  • 64-bit architecture to allowing organisations to increase the number of users per server, or allow larger mailbox quotas whilst reducing per-mailbox storage costs.
  • New anti-spam features to ensure comprehensive protection from spam, viruses and phishing attacks.

With releases of Vista, Office 2007, Communication Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 in November and over the next few months, the company is going to be very busy indeed.
