Microsoft And IBM Collaborate On Email Compliance

November 2nd, 2006: Microsoft and IBM will be working together on a new email archiving package for Windows installations.

With a 4TB base system that is expandable to 56TB, the as-yet unnamed product will support both Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino and, according to the two companies, provide medium to large IT departments with the means to meet compliance standards for email without much effort.

Similar to IBM's DR550 product, and including System Storage Archive Manager’s (SSAM) WORM (write once, read many) capabilities. While expandable to 56TB, with SSAM the system could theoretically support petabytes of data.

With the volume of corporate email data expanding exponentially, both companies believe that their offering will benefit the email archiving market and give them greater reach in the space.

They say that the solution will enable customers to deploy an archiving solution on a Windows platform instead of introducing other operating system environments to manage.

The two say that the package will be launched in Q1 2007 with a price tag of $55,000, which includes $33,000 for storage and $8,000 in IBM services.
