DICOM sharpens capture tools and targets invoices
November 14, 2006: DICOM Group today announced the release of Ascent Xtrata Pro to improve the classification and data extraction process of its existing capture products range, Ascent.
The new product is designed to minimise the need for scripting, lower the cost of deployment and reduce maintenance costs of existing capture applications.
DICOM claims the new product can manage structured and unstructured content from any type of document, transforming unpredictably-formatted content into actionable information.
The release is in line with industry trends towards providing users with intelligent extraction technology. Intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and drag-and-drop and point-and-click operations offer easier configuration. This targets operation and set-up times by minimising the need for scripting and constructing automation rules. Scripting is usually required during set-up to enable greater automation when extracting and processing scanned documents.
Dicom also says Xtrata Pro offers image and content classification, making it easier for users to classify fixed layout documents (forms) and more unstructured documents such as correspondence.
The industry’s push towards providing better capture solutions for invoices is further confirmed by this announcement. DICOM will be releasing a range of pre-packaged capture solutions, the first of which will be for invoicing.
