Fujitsu Tackles Victoria’s HealthSMART Management

October 6th, 2006: Fujitsu Australia has scored a five year deal with Victoria’s Whole-of-Health information and Communication Strategy to provide managed storage and IT services.

The strategy is aiming to improve the current HealthSMART system and in turn patient care by reducing the administrative burden on health care professionals and easing the costs associated with updating technical infrastructure within the public health care system.

The $30.8 million contract will see Fujitsu provide managed services including 24/7 server and storage monitoring and management, network management, service desk support, technical advice and security administration. The company will eventually manage more than 800 servers, as well as two multi-terabyte Storage Area Networks (SANs), comprising one of the largest government-run shared services environments in Australia.

“HealthSMART is a great example of a state-wide program which aligns IT to the overall objectives of the organisation,” says Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. “Demand for acute care continues to increase along with the demand for greater cost control and further improvements to quality and safety.  These combined factors are causing a worldwide shift in how health care is delivered with Victoria leading the way with its HealthSMART program.”
