NSW Police Get New Vision

NSW Police Get New Vision

September 13th, 2006: NSW Police have just signed a $14 million deal with Fujitsu for a new computer-aided despatch (CAD) system.

Fujitsu says that the new system will provide NSW Police with access to high quality information for front line decision-making and help with the management of 000 calls, allowing incidents and their responses to be recorded and appropriate resources to be dispatched.

In Australia Fujitsu has already been working with WA Police, Queensland Police, Victoria Police, NSW Fire Brigades and ACT Emergency Services. For this CAD implementation, it has partnered with the UK-based Fortek Computers. Fujitsu will be using Fortek’s VISION software, purpose-built for emergency services environments and already in wide use by police, ambulance and fire control rooms in Australia and overseas.

The CAD system makes use of real-time graphical displays, allowing detailed mapping incorporating locality, intelligence and any other available information to keep police officers informed.

“We have been working with Computer Aided Despatch systems for the past 12 years and understand both the functional and cultural requirements of NSW Police, particularly in the area of security, flexibility and high availability,” says Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. “Fujitsu is fully committed to delivering a solution that will not only support NSW Police with higher quality information, but which places the safety and effectiveness of NSW sworn officers at the centre of our vision.”

Fujitsu says its solution has been designed to integrate with the many other Police operational and intelligence systems, including the Police Records Systems and SAP.  It adds that CAD will also be integrated with other emergency services systems to enable coordinated dispatch of resources and incident management across Federal, inter-state and NSW services.

Fujitsu has already commenced work on the system, it is expected to go live in mid-2007
