IT Security Reports Target Governence And DoS Attacks.

August 1st, 2006: The Department of Communications has released two reports on IT security threats to business and critical infrastructure.

Two new reports on IT security governance and denial of service (DoS) attacks have been released by the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. The reports, Leading Practices and Guidelines for Enterprise Security Governance and Managing DoS Attacks were developed by the Information Technology Security Expert Advisory Group. The reports were designed specifically for critical infrastructure sectors such as communications and energy but are just as relevant to the corporate sector says the department.

“Corporate leaders are facing major challenges around IT security as their use of technology increases”, says The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan. “This rapidly changing environment means IT security must be part of the mainstream corporate governance of any business. It must be viewed as a business decision and not simply an IT decision”.

DoS attacks prevent legitimate access to a computer or to information services such as email, websites or online accounts. In addition to the two main reports, executive summaries have been produced for Chief Executive Officers and Chief Information Officers.
