Sendmail to Australia

May 30th, 2006: Sendmail Incorporated, the company based on one of the Internet's core email applications, is showing faith in the A&NZ market.

With, according to the company, an estimated 70 per cent of the global email be routed via its systems, and a history dating back to 1983, Sendmail is a Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) to be reckoned with.

The commercial operation that started as an off-shoot of the Open Source model in 1998 has increased its Asia Pacific footprint from Japan and Singapore with an office opening in Sydney.

The office, which will be based in North Sydney, will be run by Olavs Ritenis - a partner in the Milestone Group. Milestone specialises in bringing technologies to new territories. According to his biography, Ritenis will bring this experience to Sendmail, "After senior management roles with two US multinational vendors (Burroughs and GE Information Services), Olavs ran his own software, services and Internet-related companies for the past 17 years, primarily representing US and European vendors, including Verimation, Soft.Switch, Infodata and Critical Path in the Asia Pac region."

Speaking to IDM today, Ritenis explained about Sendmail's expansion, "There are already thousands of users of the Open Source Sendmail in the region - large players including the big banks rely on it - so it made logical sense to bring the additional products, services and skills of the commercial version to these users."
