BakBone Software Grows With US$5m Purchase

Nov 17, 2005: BakBone Software – provider of NetVault backup and data protection software – has confirmed its US$5-million acquisition of Constant Data Inc. increasing choice for cross-platform data protection.

NetVault is used by clients as diverse as the Korean Navy, Aussie-based Serena Rosso and the British Broadcasting Corporation, and forms the core of what BakBone's CEO, Jim Johnson calls the company's: "… Integrated Data Protection or IDP strategy". Constant Data brings its cross-platform Constant Replicator anywhere-to-anywhere data replication and synchronisation software to the IDP party.

Central to IDP is the notion of cross-platform functionality for SME to Enterprise-level businesses with Windows, Unix, Linux, Mac OSX and Solaris fully supported by both of the now complimentary products.

The latest version of NetVault, 7.4, has been successfully tested against 80 filers connected to 60 drives in a true Enterprise environment and is scheduled for release by the end of 2005. This, combined with the company's latest acquisition, caps off what even Jim Johnson has called "a challenging time" for BakBone.

BakBone's Sydney-based South Pacific Territory Manager, Victor Koshka, told IDM today that he fully supported the combination Johnson's claim that: "We are giving what our customers have been looking for".

Combining NetVault and Constant Replicator into a cohesive package must be seen as a sensible and productive move that adds a highly-available disaster recovery option to many businesses; rather than simply another big company swallowing the innovations of a smaller one.
