Primera Releases Archiving Android

Nov 25, 2005: Robots are cool. And if there is one thing that makes archiving appliances funky, it’s robotics. So in an announcement sure to excite you Terminator fans, Primera Technology has heralded the arrival of its new Optivault Archival Appliance technology.

Optivault is an automated, robotically-controlled unit that backs up and recovers email and other critical data on optical discs. It can be integrated into any Microsoft-based server and backs up and can recover a wide range of critical data. This includes all emails sent, received and deleted including attachments.

Because Optivault uses non-erasable, non-rewritable DVD optical media, it provides not only data portability for offsite storage, but true WORM (Write Once Read Many) compliance. An issue becoming more critical for businesses by the day.

"Failing to properly archive email and other critical data can be a costly mistake", said Mark Strobel , Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Primera. "Small to medium sized businesses and even departments or remote offices in larger enterprises need a reliable, cost effective archival solution that operates automatically."

Optivault is designed for use in conjunction with many backup systems that may already be in place, and when deployed with EMC Dantz Retrospect, Single Server Edition with Retrospect Agent for Exchange, backups are fully automated.

The unit connects to the server via high-speed USB 2.0, discs are automatically loaded into OptiVault's built-in recorder. Each part of the backup set is then printed direct to disc with serialisation and other identifying information for fast and easy retrieval.

Optivault is now available in Australia from Region4 authorised resellers and has a RRP of AU$5299 inc GST.
