Plasmon UDO storage gear passes Symantec testing

Oct 13, 2005: Plasmon has announced that its Ultra Density Optical (UDO) storage hardware has completed Symantec interoperability testing.

The desktop drives and high capacity G-Series libraries that make up Plasmon's hardware offering are combined with Pegasus' InveStore software, and are now certified for use with Veritas Enterprise Vault and NetBackup.

The certification is good news for companies that want to protect business and legal interests by securing archived emails and documents. Data cannot be modified or deleted on Plasmon's Compliant Write Once optical storage system.

Plasmon is able to effectively protect data in a revision-secure archive by combining their hardware with Pegasus' software tools. The tools provide next-generation write-once data protection for enterprise-class Microsoft environments, and according to Pegasus are ideal for managing archive repositories such as email, documents and imaging assets.

"Pegasus InveStore software provides a bridge between Symantec's software products and UDO archival storage technology, enabling assured data authenticity and long term compliant storage for both Enterprise Vault and NetBackup environments." Said Roy Slicker, Pegasus president. "The combination enables customers to manage their data with a complete, tiered-storage approach for archive and compliance solutions."

According to Plasmon, the system effectively eliminates problems associated with long-term retention of assets on volatile media.
