Australia strengthens ITC ties with India

Oct 24, 2005: Outsourcing: great news for companies chasing the bottom line, even better news for developing countries riding the swell of demand, but not so hot news for IT and Telecommunication professionals.

And announcements like today's from the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, are sure to make a few people twitchy.

The Minister today announced that Australia and India last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Delhi to aid cooperative development of information and communications technology (ICT) industries.

"India, like Australia, makes a substantial investment in ICT. This MoU is a formal expression at government to government level of our mutual desire to foster the good relationship between our two countries," said Senator Coonan. "The MoU recognises the important role of business to business contacts in progressing our relationship."

The MoU covers cooperation in activities including e-government, e-commerce, e-learning, IT security, Internet applications, advanced communications technologies and software and multimedia content development.
