Ernst & Young backs up mobile workers

Ernst & Young has enlisted the services of Lan 1 to create a data back-up strategy to help its mobile workers work with less interruptions by increasing system uptime, network availability and performance and better protection against data loss.

Lan 1 was selected to implement two Adaptect FS4500 RAID products as part of a solution which is the first of its kind, and will back-up data on each of Ernst & Young's 4,000 pcs and laptops every day to its national infrastructure.

This will replace a storage area network/tape library hierarchical storage management system that couldn't deal with the huge volumes of data used by Ernst & Young.

The company's core service in Australia includes assurance and advisory business services, tax, transaction advisory services and law advice to financial services.

Stephen Arnold, the CIO at Ernst & Young, said: "Our knowledge is our asset, and we therefore take its management extremely seriously in order to maintain and grow our business. Our clients often need to undertake make-or-break decisions, so our workforce relies intensely on being able to store, search and access the information they need to advise accordingly.

"As such, we simply could not afford to continue with an unreliable solution. We have been tracking the technology for a while, so when Lan 1 showcased the Adaptec product, it was a quick decision as we knew the companies and solutions would perform to the level required."

The Adaptec FS4500 Fibre to SATA RAID is considered to be ideal for reference data and fixed content applications where data availability, throughput and constant access to storage resources are critical.

It can adapt to evolving storage requirements with flexible configurations, and has no single point of failure with redundant, hot-swappable components. It is scalable to 96 drives and allows management with Spheras RAIDWatch management software.
