Electronic forms and forms management applications are coming back into focus with a number of companies offering new systems. Larger players are also moving into the market, content management specialists FileNet has announced the acquisition of Canadian forms management software vendors Shana Corporation.

FileNet paid US$8.5 million for Shana and takes on all of Shana's stock.

In a statement FileNet said it expects the acquisition to provide it with "the technology and expertise to address the growing Forms Management market." Shana's Edmonton base in Canada will become FileNet's development centre for the Shana eForms application.

Both companies have been working together prior to the acquisition, an integrated eForms solution has been marketed for over a year as part of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) deal.

Shana's client base includes Boeing, General Electric, NASA and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.

FileNet has also announced the availability of VCM (Virtual Content Management) options for its recently released P8 content management architecture. The new VCM additions will enable P8 users to integrate with third party content and data repositories from Documentum, IBM and Microsoft. Thus the P8 system will now integrate with legacy systems. VCM is available as an option to the P8 Business Process Manager, Contnet Manager and Web Content Manager suites.
