MessageOne Updates Email Archiving

December 19, 2007: Email archiving specialist MessageOne has announced that a new, updated version of its EMS email archive system is hitting the streets, this time with advanced message importing capabilities.

The firm’s Email Management Services (EMS) system has now been extended to enable the importation of messages stored in Microsoft Exchange, local .PST files and legacy on-premise archive solutions.

The system centralises distributed email into a single archive, giving companies greater control over email retention policies, compliance and e-Discovery. However, MessageOne claims archives are only as useful as the messages they contain. Due to this, the company says that to truly centralise search, discovery and retention management, firms need to ensure that every email is stored in the archive – which is where its new advanced importation features come in.

The company says these capabilities streamline the email archiving process by ingesting distributed messages into its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) EMS Email Archive. As it is able to import messages from Microsoft Exchange local .PST archives and Legacy On-Premise Archives, the system can be configured to import messages for diverse time periods and different classes of users. For example, seven years of messages can be imported for regulated users, five years for executives and 90 days for other users.

Next to this, it also solves the problem of local .PST files not including essential mailbox information and metadata by automatically associating them with the correct mailbox and restoring essential metadata. Finally, when importing from legacy archives the system retains important metadata needed to enable legal and end-user search capabilities.

“By making it easy to collect and import millions of distributed messages, MessageOne is helping companies regain control over email management,” said Satin Mirchandani, CEO of MessageOne. “Once email messages are centrally archived, MessageOne can help CIOs control retention and deletion, eliminate downtime, and better support compliance and litigation strategy.”
