SAP to resell Open Text Invoice capture
November 20, 2008: The purchase of Captaris has quickly borne fruit for Open Text, with SAP announcing it will soon begin reselling the document capture solution Invoice Capture Centre as an OCR option for SAP Invoice Management.
SAP has begun to resell Open Text's Vendor Invoice Management (VIM) as "SAP Invoice Management."
A spokesman for Open Text said, "SAP will be offering their clients an end to end solution inclusive of OCR. However, if a customer already has an OCR solution in place, SAP will support this as well."
Readsoft claims to be the leading global solution provider for automation of document processing in SAP environments.
Captaris' document capture solutions provide an "on ramp" for ECM by converting paper documents arriving by mail or fax to electronic form, so they can be managed online. Captaris developed capture technology that uses imaging, scanning and recognition technologies, plus classification and routing software that complements Open Text's solutions.
According to SAP, large corporations process millions of invoices per year, of which usually more than 80 percent are still paper-based. Although invoice exceptions represent a small percentage of this volume, they account for the majority of processing time.
The OCR option for SAP Invoice Management is scheduled to be available in early 2009. The document-capture capabilities allow organisations to convert paper invoices into electronic form so they can be processed electronically at a lower cost.
