Closing Gaps in Email Compliance

Closing Gaps in Email Compliance

January 26, 2009: Enterprise messaging infrastructure developer ColdSpark has announced the availability of its latest Compliance Catalyst solution for enterprise message archiving.

ColdSpark says that while almost all publicly traded companies have some type of enterprise email archiving solution, these solutions are optimised to capture user-generated email messages such as those generated from or received into an employee's email inbox, but nothing to adequately capture automated email messages that never touch a traditional mailbox.

The company says that as many automated emails do not originate in enterprise groupware systems like Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes, they are not journaled or captured in the enterprise archive.

“Over 25% of all email messages that originate from my firm come from automated sources, and never touch our corporate mail infrastructure; it is likely that these messages never reach our enterprise archive," one IT Executive from a major financial services firm told ColdSpark. If other companies have similar levels of automated emails missing out on archiving, this could represent a major gap in compliance, not to mention a significant risk.

ColdSpark claims it can help companies close this gap with Compliance Catalyst as it enables enterprises to capture, classify and insert automated messages into existing enterprise archiving solutions.

"Automated messaging is often overlooked when the enterprise builds out their email archiving solutions," says Scott Brown, CTO of ColdSpark. "By leveraging the Compliance Catalyst solution - built atop ColdSpark's proven SparkEngine Mail Transport Platform - large enterprises can eliminate this potential legal risk without disrupting their existing archiving solutions, and support effective response during discovery."
