Barracuda releases SMB email appliance

March 16, 2009: Barracuda Networks has whipped the sheet of its new small business message archiving appliance, promising support for up to 75 users and Exchange stubbing features.

The Barracuda Message Archiver 150 is aimed directly at small businesses. Capable of supporting up to 75 users, and at US$1,999 (AU$3,038) with no per user fees the company claims that it is currently the most affordable email and IM archiving solution for the segment.

Barracuda says that the appliance’s support for Exchange stubbing enables greater optimisation by moving email attachments from Microsoft Exchange to the appliance. This creates significant savings on email server storage and bandwidth requirements.

“The adoption of email and IM archiving technologies has grown beyond litigation and compliance concerns and extended to solving practical, operational problems,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks.

"With new capabilities focused on optimising storage efficiencies and a new model targeted at smaller organisations, we believe we are well-positioned to expand the market for email and IM archiving."
