MessageLabs Evolves Email Archiving

By Greg McNevin

October 18, 2007: Email and web security specialist MessageLabs claims it is rolling out the next generation in email archiving services this week, pitching itself as the firs software as a service (SaaS) provider to offer a complete solution to address top end email archiving, legal discovery and regulatory compliance.

The company has heralded the release of version 3.0 of its Archiving service and dubbed itself a pioneed when it comes to the email storage management, legal discovery and compliance trio. With the latest incarnation of its managed service, MessageLabs says it can safely archive all internal and external email communications while ensuring complete privacy and total data security.

It claims the service provides rapid, on-demand access to email after it has been archived, and adds that thanks to new functionality it can reduce storage requirements and lessen the amount of time spent managing mailboxes.

New features for version 3.0 include Attachment stubbing, an automated process that replaces attachments in users’ mailboxes with references to the archive, Microsoft Office 2007 support, and Exchange 2007 envelope journaling.

“As email archiving becomes a necessary and sought after tool for businesses worldwide, organisations have a choice in using an in-house or hosted solution,” said Jos White, President, MessageLabs. “MessageLabs hosted solution frees businesses from the expense and effort involved with storing vast amounts of email in-house as well as the potential resulting network inefficiencies.”
