InoTec unveils high performance scanner

InoTec is unveiling a prototype of a new production scanner for applications with very high document volumes at the CeBIT show in Germany this week. Due for release in Q3 2013, the new scanner processes documents, in full colour, at speeds of up to 300 sheets per minute (600 images) at 300 dpi.

It is designed for application wherever large quantities of documents need to be processed safely at high speed. In addition to scanning outsourcing services and mail rooms in banks and insurance companies, it is also applicable to population censuses and electoral rolls for government departments and authorities, as well as the digitisation of patient records in hospitals.

“With this new scanning solution InoTec creates an important prerequisite for the ‘Shareconomy' by converting paper-based information into electronic data as quickly as possible. Thereby giving easy access to knowledge and expertise to share more timely and comprehensively," said Peter Schnautz, CEO of InoTec. (The Shareconomy is CeBIT’s Theme for 2013 as devised by the organisers).

Dual input hoppers will enable continuous processing. It uses two built-in feeder trays with a capacity of up to 1,000 sheets each. Once one tray’s contents have been electronically processed, the empty tray is automatically moved to one side and replaced by the full one for uninterrupted scanning.

The straight-through paper path ensures that thick, thin and fragile documents, such as envelopes or plastic cards, are scanned reliably. A newly developed output hopper system has been designed to ensure trouble-free operation at high speeds. Reliable double-feed detection, using heavy duty ultrasonic sensors, is another feature

An automatic height adjustment allows the user to operate the scanner either in a standing or sitting position as desired.

The large 9" colour touch screen provides for intuitive use by featuring the well known tap and swipe functions used on tablet computers. It offers comprehensive controls and simplifies the setup of scanning parameters for each individual project.

Other InoTec developments incorporated in the new scanner include an in-house developed camera. Important workflow components are performed directly in the scanner. These include filters and corrective actions, such as electronic deskew for slanted documents.

Separator sheets control sorting operations. Mixed stacks of different formats - such as payment vouchers, A5 forms and correspondence in A4 format - can thus be captured quickly and immediately sorted into various document-specific trays, which further speeds up the process.

Patchcode / Barcode recognition and imprinting are also incorporated.
