RSA Boosts Data Security with Tablus Acquisition

By Greg McNevin

August 10, 2007: Taking a leaf out of EMC’s book, RSA security will soon be acquiring data loss prevention specialist Tablus for an undisclosed amount.

Tablus will add top-notch data discovery and classification, monitoring, and data loss prevention capabilities to RSA's stable of data security solutions.

RSA says the acquisition will enable it to significantly improve “information-centric” security by finding and identifying sensitive data, plugging data leaks and simplifying management.

The firm will combine Tablus' products with the EMC Infoscape intelligent information management solution to create a common "platform" organisations can use to discover, classify and take policy-based action on all of their data.

“Information security has clearly become an information management problem: today, many organisations struggle to establish exactly what data they have and where it all is - let alone how sensitive it is,” said Art Coviello, Executive Vice President at EMC and President of RSA.

“The hard reality of information security is that you cannot secure what you cannot manage, and you cannot manage what you cannot find. Once completed, this acquisition will significantly expand our ability to help organisations of all sizes truly secure their data,” added Corviello.

RSA says that combined with its data security products and EMC Infoscape, Tablus’ technology will enable organisations to build policies around sensitive data, and distribute the enforcement of these policies as needed when data is copied, moved or accessed.

“Data loss prevention is the battlefront in today's information security war, and winning that battle is going to require a united effort from the leaders in information technology,” said Dennis Hoffman, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at RSA.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year
