Suncorp to Utilise Avaya VOIP Solutions in Massive Deal

By Nathan Statz

July 25th, 2007: Suncorp, the financial powerhouse behind the brands GIO, AAMI, APIA and Vero has today announced a major IP Telephony agreement with Avaya.

IP Telephony and Unified Communications provider Avaya, will provide a major 8000 end-point roll out to Suncorp locations. The move is a major shift for Suncorp as it moves into the more affordable world of IP telephony.

Avaya won out in a competitive four-way pitch to provide communications infrastructure in new buildings and to replace existing legacy systems. By the end of the roll-out, over half of the organisation’s staff will be using the new Avaya system

Suncorp has stated that it made its selection based on the strength of the technology coupled with “the company’s strategic roadmap” according to Paul Cameron, Executive IT General Manager at Suncorp.

The deal strengthens Avaya’s position in the local market, just one month after the company accepted a private equity takeover bid worth US$8.2 Billion dollars, or $17.50 per share. At close of trade yesterday Avaya shares were at $16.80 each.

Suncorp will be added to the more than 1 million businesses worldwide, including more than 90 percent of the Fortune 500, who use Avaya solutions.
