Castlepoint Systems has added automated redaction to its information governance platform. The capability extends support across the disclosure and eDiscovery lifecycle for organisations preparing information for release.
The capability automatically redacts PDF and Microsoft Office documents, replacing sensitive text with black blocks, highlighted spaces or stars. Where human judgement is required, documents can be flagged for manual review before redaction is applied.
Castlepoint says the feature helps prepare information for disclosure while protecting content that must remain confidential. It aims to reduce manual effort, improve consistency and lower the risk of human error across the disclosure process.
The Australian vendor frames redaction as central to freedom of information requests, court proceedings, audits, investigations and eDiscovery. In those processes, personal information, commercially sensitive material and security-related content often sit alongside information that should be released. A single missed sentence, it notes, can lead to privacy breaches, regulatory penalties and reputational damage.
Castlepoint argues manual redaction no longer scales, given that a single investigation or FOI request can involve thousands of emails, reports, spreadsheets and attachments. Automated redaction processes sensitive information consistently, while documents needing judgement can still be sent for manual review.
The company positions redaction as part of wider information governance rather than a standalone task. It says its existing metadata, classification and search capabilities already provide the context needed to understand information. Applying those insights to redaction creates a more consistent and defensible approach to disclosure.
The announcement follows Castlepoint's recent IRAP assessment at the PROTECTED level. The company says the assessment demonstrates its commitment to secure and auditable information governance for government and highly regulated industries.
Automated redaction is available immediately as part of the Castlepoint Systems platform.
