New OPEX Scanner Cuts Document Preparation

Archive and backfile conversion jobs that must return documents in their original order are the target of Axis, a new single-bin scanner from OPEX. Axis brings OPEX's minimal-preparation, one-touch scanning to a simpler single-output design. It sits between the company's desktop scanners and its multi-bin production scanners.

It is built on a production-class transport and scans at up to 120 pages per minute. It supports both continuous batch scanning and scan-from-folder workflows.

The scanner handles auto feed and drop feed, and mixed document sizes, weights and conditions. It is aimed at operations that spend significant time preparing documents before scanning.

Axis comes in two versions. The standard Axis includes an integrated workstation with mounts for system components.

The AXIS-M mobile model has a foldable support structure, designed for moving between work areas or sites.

Both support scan-on-demand, overflow and distributed capture without workflow-specific scanner configuration.

Features include a 22-inch touchscreen, a rescan feeder, a document conditioning roller and ultrasonic sensors to detect multi-feeds.

Axis is the first OPEX-designed hardware platform to support a customer-supplied PC controller. TWAIN connectivity is planned.

"Axis represents the midpoint in our document scanning portfolio, providing a cost-effective approach for advanced document capture applications when physical sorting and dedicated, MICR-based payment processing aren't required," said Scott Maurer, President, International Division at OPEX.

Dann Worrell, President, Document and Mail Automation at OPEX, said Axis responds to customer demand. Customers want to simplify scanning, cut operating costs and improve quality, he said.

Axis joins OPEX's Falcon+, Falcon+ RED, Gemini and Velo scanners.
