Global Manufacturer Archives With AXS-One

February 8, 2007: AXS-One has scored a new contract with Lafarge Plasterboard to assist the manufacturer in meeting compliance and operational goals through an email archiving solution.

Lafarge, a manufacturer and distributor of plasterboard products decided to pursue an automation tool for archiving emails and related data following a Sarbanes Oxley audit.

”While compliance was an important reason for implementing an AXS-One solution, we could also see considerable operational cost savings in a retention system that provides users with a self-serve arrangement to access their archived emails and documents,” says Steve James, IS manager for Lafarge Plasterboard

Lafarge will now take on modules of the AXS-One Compliance Platform to assist with file system and email archiving for Lotus Notes. The new solutions will not just assist in meeting compliance requirements, but also in improving operational business processes.

It should be a welcome relief from the current systems in place at Lafarge. Currently, IT support personnel answer directly to requests from employees for old emails or files that have been archived to tape. Such requests involve physically retrieving the data from an offsite tape storage depot, loading the tape to a server then searching for the required data.

David Thompson, managing director of AXS-One in Asia Pacific says the AXS-One Compliance Platform allows unlimited volumes of unstructured data to be captured and securely stored in a central repository. “Most organisations use file systems as their archives, which creates risk because they aren’t managed and add to a massive storage overhead,” he says.

Once the AXS-One solution is installed for Lotus Notes at Lafarge, users should be able to benefit from more rapid responses to their requests for data and swift, self-service access to archived information.

“And of course, all our emails and data will be there if and when we need them, which is particularly important for litigation purposes,” says James.
