NetApp Updates Exchange Software

December 4th, 2006: Catering for early adopters, Network Appliance has released updates to two pieces of software for email backup and recovery on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Now that Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 have landed in the business community there will be a plethora of new and improved products coming off the conveyer over the next few months to support them.

One of the first cabs off the rank from NetApp is SnapManager 4.0 and Single Mailbox Recovery 4.2. According to the company, Mailbox Recover 4.0 offers enterprise-class near-instantaneous backup and recovery for Exchange Server 2007. SnapManager 4.0 on the other hand, significantly reduces administrative costs backing up Exchange databases and supports both NetApp Fibre Channel and iSCSI-based IP SANs.

Microsoft is naturally chuffed that organisations are embracing the inevitable shift to its next generation of software.

“Email is a mission critical application, and organisations demand a highly available and reliable solution”, said Kim Akers, general manager, Unified Communications, Microsoft. “We are pleased that companies like NetApp are providing solutions that will complement the enhancements delivered in Exchange Server 2007.”

NetApp says that the new software packages can:

  • Maximize data availability with near-instantaneous backups and rapid Exchange Server recovery
  • Simplify data management by addressing storage management productivity with automated data management, rapid storage provisioning, and the ability to backup and restore hundreds of databases residing on a single Exchange Server installation.
  • Rapidly recover mailbox data down to item-level from any existing snapshot backups up to and including individual e-mails and attachments.
