IBM Offers New Network Solution

July 11th, 2006: Cerulean Australia, an IBM company, announces a new managed network solution aimed at medium businesses.

The Managed Optical Networking (MON) service provides consulting and infrastructure management with low connectivity costs. The low price, according to Cerulean, is due to Coarse Wave (CWDM) and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM). As a result divergent technologies are able to operate on the one optical network.

Cerulean is hoping the solution will appeal to medium sized businesses that are heavily dependent on the internet for operations. “Networking has become an integral part of the data management of any business, small or large”, says Cerulean General Manager, Chris Weber. “Increased reliance on the internet, a greater focus on business reliance, and the convergence of voice, video and data mean a robust, high-bandwidth network is essential to stay competitive”.

Available in Australia now, Cerulean has plans to make the service available in New Zealand later this year. “The service provides clients with the technology to fully enable their applications – it also allows them to optimise infrastructure utilisation, and put a robust disaster recovery solution in place”, says Chris Weber. Cerulean, previously known as Logicalis Australia, was purchased by IBM Australia in 2004.
