Content Security At The Edge

Content Security At The Edge

February 16, 2006: Antivirus and content security vendor Trend Micro has announced a new security offering for Cisco’s Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) to protect an organisation’s information from the network gateway level.

Trend Micro claim that the new Content Security and Control Security Services Module (CSC-SSM) provides threat prevention and content control at the network edge in the form of antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing, URL blocking and filtering and content filtering services.

The company also says that due to the new module’s content security support, the Cisco ASA 5500 series monitors inbound and outbound HTTP, SMTP, POP3, and FTP traffic from the network gateway. Any data that moves through the CSC-SSM that is suspect or unauthorised is removed.

“Trend Micro’s award-winning gateway protection allows us to deliver the value of integrated, multi-function security at the network edge.” says Richard Palmer, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco’s Security Technology Group. “This new addition underscores Cisco’s Self-Defending Network security strategy which helps organisations around the world identify, prevent, and adapt to the changing Internet threat environment and help protect critical investments.”
