Optus boosts Victorian broadband

Oct 19, 2005: Optus has committed $40 million to improving broadband services in Victoria this week, A move welcomed by the Minister for Information and Communication Technology Marsha Thomson.

The investment comes on top of a previous $20 million commitment Optus made to the Bracks Government to improve broadband services and telecommunications infrastructure

"It is encouraging to see Optus increasing its commitment to invest in Victoria," Ms Thomson said. "The investment is almost a third of the $150 million national program recently announced by Optus."

"The fact that Optus is investing a further $40 million in Victoria shows a great vote of confidence in the state and the Bracks Government." she added.

The initial investment has seen the beginning of improved broadband services rolled out to 40 towns across Victoria, this extra commitment brings better services and competition onto the horizon for all Victorians.
