Entrepreneurs on the rise in Australia

Sep 09, 2005: Entrepreneurs in Australia are on the rise, according to a new book, which reveals the secrets of sixteen of Australia's biggest success stories, and highlights the results of taking risks.

The book, Made in Australia, released by IBM, celebrates the success of small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs by describing the inspiring qualities of these innovative people.

Philip Bullock, the CEO and managing director of IBM Australia and New Zealand, believes that these same characteristics have also sustained IBM in Australia on its journey from humble beginnings in the 1930s selling weighing scaled to other small businesses.

"Innovation is extremely important to IBM, and I believe it's also critical to Australia. As Australia strives to sustain our current levels of economic growth, innovation will be our single greatest driver of competitive advantage and productivity.

"This book recognises the vital importance of - and hopefully encourage - those who are prepared to take a chance, and to bring their innovative ideas to fruition."

David Campbell, the NSW Minister for Small Business, said that he believes the book has much to offer small businesses looking for the secrets of success.

"Made in Australia, is a timely and original contribution to business success in the country. Having just launched Small Business September - an initiative of the NSW Government highlighting the enormous contribution made by small business to the State and its economy - I know many businesses are searching for such a personal insight into business success."

He expects this book is important reading for anyone wanting their business to grow and prosper.
